So entering week 2 of my unemployment phase, so far so good actually. mainichi nihongo o benkyou shite, takusan dvd o mite, uchi de yukkuri yasumimasu...i like that i can take my time...time was a luxury i could not afford. i like that nothing awaits me...i'm the type of person who voluntarily piles all responsibilities onto my own shoulders and then panic over the thought of my own incompetence. it's nice to be able to breathe, that's all i'm saying. although lately i kinda noticed how easily distracted i've become...nothing seems to be able to hold my attention long enough. im forcing myself to relax so i can finish that umberto eco book but there're just too many things to tend to...i need to do laundry, tidy up the reading room, filter and throw out old magazines, fix the living room AC, catch up with friends...i feel like my brain's on steroids but im unemployed...so why the hell can't i relax!!??
anyways...i got to spend last weekend in singapore when janice came in from shanghai. it was a nice break from jakarta. i discovered ann siang street, which was way cooler than haji lane. I feel in love with Books Actually, a charming lil bookstore, which offers a selection of well-curated books...the two owners were nice too and they knew their stuff, which is good because when you shop in Jakarta, you get stoopid salespeople telling you that they'd have to go check with the manager because their brains are nothing but a useless biological ornament. boy i really hate this city. my mum told me that i've been exuding this hostile aura...hahahha i wonder why.
oops i got sidetracked...back to singapore...predictably, janice dragged me out clubbing 2 nights in a row...if you think i partied hard, you're wrong. by 2 am i was already glancing restlessly at my watch, by 3, i started yawning...when we finally got home at 4.30, i was so relieved like you wouldn't believe...hahaha but i did munch on some good food. iggy's sea urchin jelly was good, tatsuya was ok altho i still prefer kinokawa...lunch at the royal copenhagen was cute. was quite excited about cova but it was disappointing...
i do look fwd to bali at the end of the month...and i might go to europe if everything works out well...we'll see...
anyhow...was browsing the internet when i came across Esquire's covers featuring several of my favorite designers. apparently they asked a bunch of designers to redo some of their old covers for their 75th anniversary edition. Miuccia Prada, Ralph Lauren, Paul Smith, Alber Elbaz, Vivienne Westwood and Dolce&Gabbana's versions were ok...but I particularly like Karl Lagerfeld, Christopher Bailey and John Galliano's for obvious reasons...
Btw, Viktor & Rolf just launched a kick ass website (http://www.viktor-rolf.com)...be sure to check it out!!!
