    Dilapidated Dreams

I've had a lot of time to think about...well...a lot of things...

with so much time in my hands, i ended up reminiscing about the days when i seemed to know for sure what i was meant to do in life...the days when i would write incessantly, exercising my hands so they could keep up with the thoughts running through my head. lately though, i find myself not having a single significant thought...i just don't have anything to say...nothing urgent enough to be commemorated on paper at least. nothing seems important. maybe i've been gradually desensitized...and the worst part is, i don't feel like doing anything about it. what for? nothing ever amounts to anything in this city. ジャカルタのこと嫌いです。

i feel it slowly slipping away...and i don't bloody care.

So entering week 2 of my unemployment phase, so far so good actually. mainichi nihongo o benkyou shite, takusan dvd o mite, uchi de yukkuri yasumimasu...i like that i can take my time...time was a luxury i could not afford. i like that nothing awaits me...i'm the type of person who voluntarily piles all responsibilities onto my own shoulders and then panic over the thought of my own incompetence. it's nice to be able to breathe, that's all i'm saying. although lately i kinda noticed how easily distracted i've become...nothing seems to be able to hold my attention long enough. im forcing myself to relax so i can finish that umberto eco book but there're just too many things to tend to...i need to do laundry, tidy up the reading room, filter and throw out old magazines, fix the living room AC, catch up with friends...i feel like my brain's on steroids but im unemployed...so why the hell can't i relax!!??

anyways...i got to spend last weekend in singapore when janice came in from shanghai. it was a nice break from jakarta. i discovered ann siang street, which was way cooler than haji lane. I feel in love with Books Actually, a charming lil bookstore, which offers a selection of well-curated books...the two owners were nice too and they knew their stuff, which is good because when you shop in Jakarta, you get stoopid salespeople telling you that they'd have to go check with the manager because their brains are nothing but a useless biological ornament. boy i really hate this city. my mum told me that i've been exuding this hostile aura...hahahha i wonder why.

oops i got sidetracked...back to singapore...predictably, janice dragged me out clubbing 2 nights in a row...if you think i partied hard, you're wrong. by 2 am i was already glancing restlessly at my watch, by 3, i started yawning...when we finally got home at 4.30, i was so relieved like you wouldn't believe...hahaha but i did munch on some good food. iggy's sea urchin jelly was good, tatsuya was ok altho i still prefer kinokawa...lunch at the royal copenhagen was cute. was quite excited about cova but it was disappointing...

i do look fwd to bali at the end of the month...and i might go to europe if everything works out well...we'll see...

anyhow...was browsing the internet when i came across Esquire's covers featuring several of my favorite designers. apparently they asked a bunch of designers to redo some of their old covers for their 75th anniversary edition. Miuccia Prada, Ralph Lauren, Paul Smith, Alber Elbaz, Vivienne Westwood and Dolce&Gabbana's versions were ok...but I particularly like Karl Lagerfeld, Christopher Bailey and John Galliano's for obvious reasons...

    Esquire Lagerfeld

Btw, Viktor & Rolf just launched a kick ass website (http://www.viktor-rolf.com)...be sure to check it out!!!

  • I Want: Aminaka Wilmont

One of my last assignments at Dewi was to write about current trends in Scandinavian design...well, I didn't get to write the bit on Scandinavian fashion but nevertheless, I stumbled upon Aminaka Wilmont, winner of Fashion Fringe 2007. They're brand new but I really like their aesthetic approach. A bit Vivienne Westwood-ish but super modern and wearable. I like the colors...and the smart way they combine structure and draping. A few of their items are available via net-a-porter.com but still way too overpriced for my budget Anyways, I think they're worth checking out.

  • The Revolution Will Be Fabulous

One of the advantages of being unemployed is that you can spend all day clicking incessantly through however many websites your retina can take. And what a rewarding activity it is!

Look at the pictures I found on Peter Gronquist's solo show at Gallery 1988, Los Angeles. Fashion is literally lethal! The Oakland based artist exhibited a range of pimped-out artilleries donning some of the most iconic fashion emblems. I know you can't call this serious art or whatever but what the hell...it would be nice to assassinate someone with an Fendi Chainsaw or Chanel Rocket Launcher. And believe it or not, they're not that expensive. I would actually spend my money on that LV Electric Chair than on a lackluster Hermes bag.

    On a more personal note...

I actually haven't been getting that much down time since last Wednesday. I was out a lot, catching up with friends mostly...which is good...hahaha i kinda feel normal. A little bit bummed about having to go back to work on Wednesday...I wish I had more time to go on a DVD marathon...I haven't even finish one book! But the apartment finally looks decent again...and i went to the orthodontist...so starting from tomorrow onwards, I'm gonna have braces on for the next 1.5 years (hiks).

Hey...this is not bad at all...I actually didn't have a problem articulating myself...alrightttt!!! time to reward myself with some munchies! :D

  • Vanity Fair

Welcome to Elaine's newly resurrected xanga site. She doesn't know what to write yet but she knows she has to start writing again because otherwise whatever remnants of intelligence left in her would thoroughly slip into oblivion. She chooses to blog because she is lazy and because xanga has a useful spell checking feature. she's certain that there should be no reason why anyone would give a shit about her far from exciting life, but she doesn't care...cause tapping on the keyboard is therapeutic to her and that's all that matters.
